Week 6 Recap: OUTCAN Keeps Rolling, and Two Games Go Down to the Final Horn

Six weeks into the season, and the league's top teams are starting to separate themselves — while two more games came down to the final horn. Here's the full Week 6 breakdown.

World Orphans 6, Velodrome 2

World Orphans put this one away early, scoring three unanswered goals in the first period behind Austin Webb, BJ LaChat, and Chad Ferguson to take full control before Velodrome could find its footing. Velodrome's Ty Smith pulled one back in the second, but Marc Smith answered right away to restore the three-goal cushion, and World Orphans cruised from there.

Chad Ferguson and Austin Webb each finished with two goals, and the two connected on both ends of the ice — Webb assisted Marc Smith's goal, and Smith returned the favor on Webb's third-period tally. Ty Smith's second goal late in the third made the final score respectable at 6-2, but this one was decided well before the third period started.

OUTCAN Outlaws 4, Parker Winnelson 1

The Outlaws continue to look like the class of the league. Cesar Shinall opened the scoring in the first, Colby Rasplicka doubled the lead early in the second, and OUTCAN put the game away with two more third-period goals from Jesse Ortiz and Dan Ennis before Parker Winnelson got on the board with just over five minutes left. Trevor Chavez and Colin Brewster each picked up two assists in the win.

The result pushed OUTCAN to 5-1 on the season, the best record in the league, while Parker Winnelson dropped to 1-3-2. If there's a team to beat right now, it's the Outlaws.

J&J Automotive 4, OS Offices 4 (Tie)

This one had late drama written all over it. J&J Automotive led 4-3 late in the third after Jonathan Valtin's goal, and OS Offices needed a response fast. Jesse Theken got them within one with just under three minutes left, and then Mitchell Liebl buried the tying goal at the literal final buzzer — 0:05 on the clock — to force the 4-4 draw.

Travis Hinton led J&J Automotive with two goals and an assist, while Garrett Ashcroft's goal and two assists paced OS Offices in a game that had five goals scored in the second period alone.

Nelson & Company 5, ACE 5 (Tie)

Nelson & Company and ACE traded the lead throughout an up-and-down affair that ended level. Nelson & Company built a 4-1 lead through two periods behind goals from TJ Liebl, Joe Lopez, and Eric Elliott, but ACE clawed back with three unanswered goals — two from Simon Kurtz — to tie it at 4-4 early in the third. TJ Liebl restored the lead for Nelson & Company, but Nick Zellmann's second goal of the night tied it right back up less than a minute later, and neither team found the go-ahead goal after that.

Simon Kurtz, Nick Zellmann, and TJ Liebl were named the game's three stars, each finishing with two goals on the night in a back-and-forth game that lived up to its billing.

Platinum 4, Triple J 2

Platinum controlled this one from puck drop, building a 2-0 first-period lead through Andrew Marshall and Karen Zietlow. Keegan Mantaro kept Triple J within reach with a pair of goals sandwiched around a third-period Tyler Zhao marker, but John Slaughter's goal in the final minutes sealed the 4-2 win for Platinum.

The win improved Platinum to 4-0-2 on the season, keeping them near the top of the standings, while Jason O'Leary and Austin Storm each chipped in two assists in the victory.

OUTCAN Outlaws and Platinum both continue to separate themselves near the top of the standings, while two more games ended in ties decided in the final minute of play. Six weeks in, this league still hasn't given anyone a reason to look away early.
