Week 11 saved its best for the final minutes. Two games were decided in the last 70 seconds, OUTCAN scored six times in a single period, and Platinum scored four in the final 3:32 to turn a one-goal game into a rout. Here's the full Week 11 breakdown.
This one was tight until the final minutes, and then it wasn't. Parker Winnelson and Platinum traded the lead through two periods, with Nicholas Lang putting Parker Winnelson in front twice, first on a Josh Cronk assist in the opening period and again in the second, and John Slaughter and Jason O'Leary pulling Platinum level each time. Austin Storm broke the tie with the game-winner in the second, set up by Slaughter and Matt Quinn, to make it 3-2.
Then the third period turned into a blowout. Platinum scored four times in the final 3:32: Jesse Chambless made it 4-2, O'Leary scored 40 seconds later, Storm added his second of the night, and Chris Dube capped it with 14 seconds left.
Storm finished with two goals and an assist, Chambless had a goal and two assists, and O'Leary scored twice. Brandon Ward earned the win in net as Platinum put up at least seven goals for the second straight week, following last week's 9-2 win over Velodrome. Lang scored both Parker Winnelson goals, and Casey Lang took the loss.
The OUTCAN Outlaws had a second period for the books. After a first period in which Triple J's Keegan Mantaro answered Taylor Rogalsky's opening goal, OUTCAN led 3-1. Then it scored six times in the second, including three goals in a span of 61 seconds, to turn a two-goal game into a 9-1 blowout.
Trevor Chavez scored the game-winner, set up by Hunter Winegarner, and Samson Leifer led the way with three goals and two assists for a five-point night. Christopher Mihlon and Winegarner each added a goal and two assists.
Triple J got goals from Kyle Popovich and Sean-Michael Kayga in the third, both set up by Mantaro, who finished with a goal and two assists. Jeremy Chubbs earned his third straight win in net, and OUTCAN has now won three in a row, outscoring its opponents 17-7 over that stretch.
TJ Liebl ended it with 21 seconds left. Nelson & Company jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from Anthony Mandt and Josh Twitchell, and Liebl made it 3-1 in the first period after Austin Webb had cut the deficit to one. The World Orphans clawed back in the second, with Chad Ferguson and Kory Reimann tying it at 3-3.
The third period stayed deadlocked until the final seconds, when Liebl, set up by Twitchell, scored the game-winner with 21 seconds on the clock for the 4-3 win. Nelson & Company never trailed in the game.
Twitchell finished with a goal and two assists, Liebl scored twice, and Joe Lopez added two assists. Scott Purdy earned the win in net and even picked up an assist, on Liebl's first-period goal, while Ian Ward took the loss. Nelson & Company bounced back from last week's 6-5 loss to J&J Automotive, and Liebl has now scored nine goals over the last three weeks.
Velodrome built a 5-1 lead, watched OS Offices erase all of it, and still found a way to win. Hayden Smith scored the game-winner, assisted by Josh Simonds, with 1:10 left in the third period, just 58 seconds after OS Offices had tied the game at 5-5.
Velodrome had the early command. William Gagnon-Robitaille, Kevin White, and Smith scored in the first period to make it 3-0, Joshua Hosack, set up by Garrett Ashcroft, got OS Offices on the board just before the first-period horn, and Ty Smith and Mike Flood stretched the lead to 5-1 in the second.
That's when OS Offices came alive. Josh Theken made it 5-2, Nicholas Cimino made it 5-3 before the second period ended, Theken added another with just over six minutes left in the third to make it 5-4, and Cimino, set up by Hosack, tied it with 2:08 to go. That made it four unanswered goals, but Velodrome had one more answer left.
Hayden Smith finished with two goals and two assists, Cimino had two goals and an assist, and Theken scored twice. John Rhode earned the win in net for Velodrome, which snapped a two-game losing streak, while Justin Bell took the loss.
Jonathan Valtin did a little bit of everything. He scored twice and assisted on three more goals for a five-point night as J&J Automotive cruised to a 7-1 win, a week after Valtin's four-goal night. Travis Hinton set the tone with two goals in 43 seconds in the first period, including the game-winner, set up by Andrew Lunn and JoLyn Maly.
Valtin made it 3-0 in the second on a Nick Ciampoli assist, then scored his second goal in the third to make it 4-0. Noah Seibert scored next, assisted by Valtin and Ciampoli, and after ACE's Nathan Watts broke up the shutout on an Ethan Kalbfleisch assist, Lunn, set up by Valtin and Ken Huisman, and Seibert, set up by Valtin again, closed it out.
Hinton and Seibert each scored twice. Francis Forte earned the win in net, allowing only Watts' goal, while Ian Gustafson took the loss for ACE, which had won its previous two games.
Week 11 had a little of everything: two one-goal games settled in the final 70 seconds, a Velodrome lead that nearly disappeared, a six-goal second period from OUTCAN, and a five-point night from Jonathan Valtin. The five games combined for 47 goals. Eleven weeks in, you still can't leave early.
Week 12 is on deck. See you at the rink.
